2017 Jr Monarchs Winter Classic Tourney Champs!

Monday, January 2, 2017, 11:25AM

Coming off a second place finish in the November Jay Peak tournament, the 04 Shamrocks Orange team was chomping at the bit for the chance to bring home the big trophy at the Jr. Monarchs Winter Classic Tournament.
To start the tournament, the Shamrocks played the tough, physical Advantage Ice team. Shamrocks played hard and had more chances than the Advantage Ice, but because of cross bars and bad puck bounces, it just wasn't the Shamrocks day. Shamrocks started the tourney with a 2-1 loss.
Shamrocks came back in game 2 with another hard fought game against the  Burrillville Broncos. Shamrocks again carried the play for most of the game, but found themselves down 2-1. With time running out, the Shamrocks pulled their goalie and scored the game tying goal ... with just 10 seconds left in the game ... keeping their playoff hopes alive!
Game 3 was against the RI Vikings. Due to the tourney point system, the Shamrocks needed to not only win the game, but needed to win all three periods to advance to the tourney playoffs. The Shamrocks answered the call and played one of their best games of the year. The passing was outstanding and they had the Vikings chasing all game long. Shamrocks dominated the entire game and won 9-0. This win put the Shamrocks in the playoffs as the number 4 seed.
The #1 vs #4 seed turned out to be a revenge game against the undefeated Advantage Ice. Shamrocks played a great game from start to finish. Both goalies made big saves to keep the game close. It was a back and fourth battle all game. With 5 minutes left in the 3rd and the Shamrocks up 2-1, the Shamrocks scored a power play goal to make it 3-1. The Shamrocks finished off their revenge game by beating the #1 seed Advantage Ice 4-1 and moved on to the finals.
In the final game, the Shamrocks played the hard skating Maine Moose team. The Shamrocks continued their relentless team play. Shamrocks played as a 5 man unit and the Moose had no answers. The Shamrocks controlled the puck with great cycling down low, accurate passing, and tough defensive play. Shamrocks kept the Moose running around all game and won 4-1.
The Shamrocks displayed picture perfect team effort the entire tournament ... from the forwards relentless forecheck/backcheck and puck position, to the defenses lock down of the talented opposing forwards and controlling the puck to facilitate our breakouts, and to the outstanding goaltending. Both goalies played unbelievable between the pipes and made big saves in key points in every game, all tourney long. Shamrocks had by far the best goals against, only allowing 6 goals total in 5 games.
The 04 Orange Shamrocks are the 2017 Jr. Monarchs Winter Classic Champions!
Congratulations boys, you earned it.
